Vivek Express numbered 15905-06 is the longest running train in India, and 8th longest in the world.
Vivek Express is one among the 4 Vivek Expresses announced by Railway Minister Mamta Bonerjee to commemorate 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda.
Vivek Express,the weekly train runs a total distance of 4,286 km from Dibrugarh in Assam to Kanyakumari in Tamilnadu, the southern tip of Indian Peninsula via Trivandrum Central that will be covered in 82:30 hours (almost 4 days). There are 52 halts spanning across a total of 615 intermediate railway stations.
Vivek Express was flagged-off on November 19,2011 from Dibrugarh and will commence on November 26 from the Kanyakumari railway station.
The 15905 Kanyakumari-Dibrugarh Vivek Express will leave Kanyakumari at 2 p.m. on Saturday to reach Dibrugarh at 3.30 a.m. on Wednesday.
The 15906 Dibrugarh- Kanyakumari Vivek Express will leave Dibrugarh at 11.45 p.m. on Saturday and reach Kanyakumari at 10.25 a.m. on Wednesday.
The composition of the trains will be one AC 2-tier, two AC 3-tier, seven sleeper class, six general second class, two luggage- cum- brake vans, and a pantry car.
Himsagar Express numbered 16317 is the 2nd longest running train which runs from Kanyakumari in Tamilnadu to Jammu Tawi in Jammu Kashmir - the northernmost state of India in 71 hours covering a distance of 3715 km and transverses 9 of India's states and halting at a total of 69 stations.
It runs weekly, starting every Friday at 14:05 hours from Kanyakumari, reaching Jammu on Mondays at 15:10 hours. It returns from Jammu on Mondays at 23:45 hours and reaches Kanyakumari on Thursdays at 22:45 hours.
