The Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2011 seeking digitalisation of cable TV was passed by Rajya Sabha on Monday Dec 19,2011.
Lok Sabha has already passed the Bill. The Bill was passed by a voice vote.
“The measure aims at regulating cable operators and digitalising the analog TV network across the country in a phased manner by December 31, 2014,” said Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni.
The bill gives the government the right to cancel licences of cable operators who flout rules.
