Akhilesh Yadav(DOB July 1, 1973)Takes Centrestage
had his schooling at Dholpur Military School ;
a Bachelor of Engineering (BE) degree from Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering, Mysore, affiliated to University of Mysore and a Masters in Environmental Engineering from Sydney University;
was first elected to the Lok Sabha from Kannauj in a by-election in 2000, a seat he would retain in the 2004 and 2009 Lok Sabha elections.Akhilesh contested from the Firozabad Lok Sabha seat too in 2009. He won by a margin of 67,301 votes against Bahujan Samaj Party candidate SPS Baghel.
Akhilesh, having also won from Kannauj, decided to vacate the Firozabad Lok Sabha seat. It led to a by-poll. Akhilesh's wife, Dimple, contested the by-election against the Congress' star candidate, Raj Babbar. But the campaign, anchored by Amar Singh at Akhilesh's behest, that saw Jaya Prada and Jaya Bachchan taking to the dais, failed to pacify the voters who were angered by Akhilesh dumping the seat. Raj Babbar won, and that too by more than 85,000 votes.
Akhilesh crisscrossed the length and breadth of the state to galvanise the grassroot leaders and workers and to increase the support base, on the other hand came promises of free laptops to students on the eve of the 2012 Assembly polls
The mascot and the idiom has completely changed. SP's face and heir apparent Akhilesh Yadav is leading the campaign now with Mulayam Singh taking a backseat.
Akhilesh also put his foot down and refused to induct the likes of DP Yadav.Akhilesh said, "I may be young but I've decided not to take in corrupt people.
SP's main worry remains western UP. Where a Congress-Ajit tie-up has pushed him out of contention in the Jat-Muslim dominated belt.
As Akhilesh Yadav tours across Uttar Pradesh on his Kranti Rath, he realises that if his party which is currently out of power both at the Centre and the State, is not able to make a dent this time, sustenance till 2014 General polls will be an uphill task.
SP is eying the floating upper caste votes, at the same time it is keeping doors ajar for a post poll tie-up with the Congress.

U P Assembly Elections - The Issues
1)BSP won 206 seats in 2007 and seized power by dethroning Samajwadi Party (SP) government led by Mulayam Singh Yadav on its own. At that time, people were fed up with the deteriorating law and order situation and criminalisation of politics in the state.Voters chose Mayawati as the best possible alternative; breaking barriers of caste and community.
However, in 2012 things are pretty different.Mayawati regime is facing a barrage of
corruption chargesand an anti-incumbency wave, which seems to be getting stronger with every passing day. Mayawati may not be the people’s favourite anymore. Several ministers are facing inquiries by the Lokayukta making the government vulnerable to opposition attacks. Mayawati has denied tickets to around a hundred sitting MLAs in a desperate attempt to fight off anti-incumbency and to improve her party’s image.
2)Rahul Gandhi takes the centre-stage in Congress` battle to reinvigorate itself in U P and had been crisscrossing the length and breadth of the state creating optimism that party’s 22-year long political wilderness will finally end. Backed by Congress’ ‘Utho, Jago, Badlo’ slogan, Rahul seems to have struck an emotional chord with all sections of the society.
Also the Congress is not just banking upon the personal charisma of Rahul Gandhi and has sewed together a smart electoral alliance with Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) of Ajit Singh, which can tilt the scales in its favour in western UP.
Congress would also expect to reap the political dividend of its decision to carve out a sub-quota for Muslims within the 27% reservation for OBCs, a move credited to Rahul. (On December 22, 2011the Union Cabinet approved reservation for minorities under the Other Backward Castes category and decided to give 4.5% sub-quota to minorities to be carved out from the existing quota of 27% for the OBC)
3)Land acquisition has emerged as one of the most important poll issues in Uttar Pradesh. The fire started from Bhatta Parsaul village near Delhi, where the police opened fire of farmers protesting against forceful acquisition of their land.The whole issue acquired political credence after Congress Rahul Gandhi took up the issue as part of his ‘Mission UP’.

Polling U P Chief Minister Mayawati's Native Village
Even 25-metre-long queues and 40-50 minutes of waiting did not deter residents of Badalpur, the native village of Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati, from exercising their right to vote. Their enthusiasm was reflected in numbers as the turnout in the Dadri assembly seat, which includes Badalpur, went up from 42% in the last elections to 57%.

2012 Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections - Major Parties Expected Results
Samajwadi Party's Expected Results
It is expected that Samajwadi Party will be the single largest party.Reports indicate that SP has done quite well in the first 5 phases, particularly well in the third phase and upstaged BSP in places such as Sultanpur, Allahabad, Jaunpur, Varanasi and Mirzapur. In the 6th phase which is mainly Western UP, SP seems to have lost a bit of steam. But in the last phase SP is poised to do relatively well in Muslim dominated areas such as Moradabad, Rampur and Bareilly. Hence SP could secure 150-160 seats.
BJP's Expected Results
The real surprise in these elections could well be the BJP,reports suggest BJP has picked up from the 2nd phase and right till the 7th phase the party is doing remarkably well in virtually all pockets.BJP could secure between 85 to 90 seats.
BSP's Expected Results
If poll indications are true (they are not always) these elections are not about a Pro-Samajwadi Party wave as suggested by many, but they are more about a massive Anti-Mayawati wave. There seem to have been a massive anti-incumbency not only against Mayawati - especially in the middle and upper classes for all the money she spent on parks and statues - but also against her MLAs.
Anti-incumbency against Mayawati and voter turnout has been the highest since independence - these two factors enough to slide Mayawati below the 100 mark?. Reports suggest fewer seats to BSP, Mayawati - with dalits solidly behind her - could secure around 90 to 110.
Congress Party's Expected Results
After initial euphoria on the campaign of Rahul Gandhi,the Congress seems to have realized that Rahul's charm might not be enough?
Congress' only ray of hope is its alliance with RLD. Congress is doing relatively (read relatively) well in West UP along with Ajit Singh. But the question is. Will that be enough?. Congress by all means is all set to hover in the range of 55 to 60 combined with RLD
