Ministers who were forced to resign on corruption charges in UPA II


1)A Raja ( Communication and Information Technology)resigned on Nov 14,2010 and was arrested in February 2011 because of an Alleged Scam in 2G Spectrum Allocation and the CAG Report said it cost the exchequer Rs 1.76 lakh crore



2)Dayanihdhi Maran(Textiles)resigned in July 2011over allegations that as Telecom Minister(between May 2004 and May 2007) he arm-twisted the promoter of mobile service provider Aircel to sell out to Malaysian telecom firm Maxis


3)Shashi Tharoor(MOS-External Affairs)resigned in April 2010 though there were no direct corruption charges against him, Tharoor got into problems after then IPL commissioner Lalit Modi alleged that Sunanda Pushkar, who is now Tharoor's wife, had equity stakes in Rendezvous Sports World (RSW), heading the consortium that owns the Kochi Team in Indian Premier League (IPL).

However, he was later taken back as MOS-HRD in 2012, a portfolio he presently holds.

4)Virbhadra Singh(Small,Micro & Medium Industries) resigned after a court in Himachal Pradesh framed corruption charges against him and his wife, Pratibha. They had been booked for alleged misuse of his official position and criminal misconduct when Virbhadra Singh was the chief minister of Himachal Pradesh in 1989. He led the party to victory in the state elections and is now chief minister again

5)Pawan Kumar Bansal(Railways)was forced to resign over the Railway Bribery Scam.


Six Railway Ministers in UPA II - 2009 - May 2013
TMC Leader Mamata Banerjee took over as Railway Minister in the start of UPA-2 in 2009 but exited once she became chief minister of West Bengal.
Dinesh Trivedi(TMC)succeeded Mamata Banerjee but had an unceremonious exit when he announced passenger fare hike to the displeasure of Mamata Banerjee
Mukul Roy(TMC)succeeded Dinesh Trivedi
C P Joshi(INC)succeeded Mukul Roy as TMC withdrew its support to the UPA II Govt in Sep 2012
Pawan Kumar bansal succeeded C P Joshi with a Cabinet reshuffle in Oct 2012.Pawan Kumar Bansal was the 6th Railway Minister including Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who briefly presided over the ministry in UPA II

6)Ashwani Kumar(Law Minister) was forced to resign for interfering in CBI's Coalgate Probe Report
