Prime Minister Manmohan Singh files Rajya Sabha nomination papers -Wednesday May 15,2013

 

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh filed his nomination papers(for 5th Term) in the Assam Assembly to be re-elected as a Rajya Sabha member from the state on Wednesday May 15,2013

The last date for filing file nominations is May 20,2013 and elections (if needed) will be on May 30,2013

Dr Manmohan Singh has been representing the state since 1991, ever since he joined politics. Dr Manmohan Singh's term comes to an end on June 14,2013.

Dr Manmohan Singh is expected to win his seat hands down. With the Congress and allies occupying 94 seats in the 126-member Assam Assembly

There are two vacancies for the Rajya Sabha from Assam -

• Dr Manmohan Singh(INC) and
• Kumar Deepak Das(AGP)

Dr Manmohan Singh's affidavit mention that he is a resident of house No.3989, Nandan Nagar, in Guwahati's Sarumotoria locality (Former Assam chief minister, late Hiteswar Saikia, had rented the house to him in 1991 when Manmohan Singh sought nomination to Rajya Sabha from the state)

The affidavit submitted to the returning officer in Assam give details of -

• his total annual income is Rs.40,51,964

• total movable assets to be worth Rs.3,87,63,188, which includes five fixed deposits and three savings accounts

• 1996-model Maruti car owned by the Prime Minister is valued at just Rs.21,033

Dr Singh's wife Gursharan Kaur has -

• Rs.20,000 in cash
• movable assets worth Rs.20,31,385, including 150.8 grams of gold worth Rs.3,45,332
• has Rs.16,62,570 in a savings account
