Manchester City Sack Manager Roberto Mancini -Monday May 13,2013

"It is with regret that Manchester City Football Club announces that Roberto Mancini has been relieved of his duties as Manchester City Manager," the club said in a statement.

On Sunday night Mancini was told, by chairman Khaldoon al Mubarak, that his tenure would be terminated, though it was a further 24 hours before the axe fell

The Club claimed that the decision to sack Mancini was a result of senior figures having “identified the need to develop a holistic approach to all aspects of football at the club”.

"Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak said: “Roberto’s record speaks for itself and he has the respect and gratitude of Sheikh Mansour, myself and the board for all of his hard work and commitment over the last three and a half years.
"He has clearly also secured the love and respect of our fans. He has done as he promised and delivered silverware and success, breaking the club’s 35-year trophy drought and securing the title in 2012.
"I would like to personally and publicly thank him for his dedication to the progress that he has overseen and for his support and continued friendship."

Having signed a five-year contract worth £7.5 million-a-year last summer, Mancini is expected to receive at least one year’s salary in compensation for his dismissal.

Roberto Mancini’s departure will be welcomed by the club’s players, who have endured a fractious relationship with the manager for the past 18 months. High-profile fallouts with captain Vincent Kompany, England goalkeeper Joe Hart and midfielder Samir Nasri have done little to help Mancini’s position

Ironically, the axe fell on Mancini exactly a year to the day since Sergio Agüero’s injury-time winner against QPR on the final day of last season secured the Premier League title for club – City’s first league championship since 1968.
