Sydney is celebrating its 38th Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, with up to half a million revellers expected to turn out for the giant street party on Saturday night
Final touches were being made to costumes and floats before more than 12,000 participants took to the streets to strut, dance and march their stuff
Accompanying them are 175 floats from groups as diverse as parade stalwarts Dykes on Bikes to newcomers the National Rugby League
The pavements of Oxford Street are packed, with rainbows, glitter and smiles covering much of the crowd
