Dearness Allowance (DA) hiked by 6 %, to benefit 1 crore Central Govt employees Wednesday March 23,2016

In a Holi gift to over one crore employees and pensioners, the NDA Government on Wednesday March 23,2016 decided to raise Dearness Allowance by 6% effective from January 2016

“The government is wishing Happy Holi to Central government employees with a total of 6% DA hike. This makes it to 125% of basic pay,” Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad told reporters after the Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

This will benefit about 50 lakh government employees and 58 lakh pensioners, he said.  The impact of the DA hike on the exchequer will be Rs 14,725.74 crore from January 14 to February 2017.

The DA is paid as a portion of basic pay of employees to neutralise the impact of inflation. Pensioners get Dearness Relief.
