Chennai Metro Rail trial run begins on Alandur-airport stretch Tuesday March 01,2016

In yet another step towards the launch of the next service, Chennai Metro Rail has started a trial run between Alandur and Chennai airport.

But, it is to be noted that this trial run was carried out with an Over Head Maintenance Vehicle and not with trains.

As part of the inspection process before the launch, Chennai Metro Rail conducted the first trial run with the vehicle. The trial run with trains is likely to be carried out in a month.

According to officials of Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL), the trial run may be done only after the electrification and signalling are complete on this stretch.

“We began the electrification and signalling sometime ago and hope to complete it soon. The construction of stations is also going well. Meanwhile, the trial run with trains for the other stretch between Little Mount and Alandur started in November itself,” an official said.

Officials noted the ramp work between Chennai airport and Nanganallur road station was quite challenging.

“The covering of the viaduct for a brief length from Alandur to prevent interference of signal to flights may also be completed soon,” an official said.
