New Zealand will become the second country after Australia to introduce compulsory plain packaging on cigarettes, the NZ Govt has announced
Under the changes, all colourful branding will be removed from cigarette packaging, to be replaced by graphic health warnings
The international tobacco industry has warned
that it will hit back as it has in Australia, with legal challenges
likely to be filed on the day after new regulations are introduced to
parliament.
Tariana Turia, the
Associate Health Minister, said the law change will be tabled later this
year and that the government is prepared for a legal fight.
