J Jayalalithaa Inaugurates Budget Restaurant in Santhome,Chennai -Tuesday Feb 19,2013


Chennai Corporation has set up 15 budget outlets across city, run by women self-help groups, to provide quality food at affordable prices.The restaurants have been opened with the aim of serving quality food at affordable prices to the general public.

The Restaurant offers Idli (100 gram) for a rupee, Sambar Rice (350 gram) for Rs. 5 and Curd Rice (350 gram) for Rs. 3.




The Restaurants will be open from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. and noon to 3 p.m

TN CM J Jayalalithaa inaugurated the first restaurant in Santhome and J Jayalalithaa herself handed over their food to 3 customers -Annapoorani, Thamaraikannan and Saroja
 



The Santhome Outlet was the first of the Chennai Corporation’s 15 budget restaurants opened across the city, and inaugurated by the Chief Minister. A total of seven women were on the first shift at the Santhome restaurant on Tuesday. Six women took over the second shift, beginning in the afternoon


Over 10,000 self-help groups with an average of 12 members each in the city, will potentially supply workers for all the restaurants to be commissioned by the Chennai Corporation

24 more wards open Budget Restaurants -Sunday Feb 24,2013

The Chennai Corporation on Saturday Feb 23,2013 announced the 24 locations where a budget restaurant each will be opened on Sunday Feb 24,2013
The 24 new restaurants will come up on Manali Express Road, Thiyagi Sathyamurthy Nagar, ward 6; Perumal Koil Street, Elanthanoor, ward 16; Nehru Street, Ponniammanmedu, ward 33; New Vinobha Nagar, ward 38; Mangammal Thottam, New Washermenpet, ward 40; Anna Pillai Street, ward 57; Egmore railway station entrance near Dina Thanthi, ward 58; Paper Mills Road, Sembium, ward 68; Valluvan Street, Otteri, ward 75; Mariamman Koil Street, Menambedu, Ambattur, ward 82; No. 24, Mangalapuram, 7th Street, Chetpet, ward 107; MGR 3rd Street, MMDA Colony, ward 108; No. 4, Muthiah Street, Royapettah, ward 120; No. 1, Ayyappa Nagar Main Road, Koyambedu, ward 127; Kamaraj Colony Main Road, Kodambakkam, ward 134; Madha Koil Street, Nerkundram, ward 145; Raja Street, First Lane, Alandur, ward 162; Balakrishnapuram Main Road, Adambakkam, ward 163; Thiruvenkatan Street, near zonal office, Adyar, ward 175; First Avenue, Besant Nagar, ward 176; MGR Nagar, Velachery-Taramani Road, ward 183; division office, ECR, Palavakkam, ward 185; Velachery-Tambaram Main Road, near Pallikaranai compost, ward 190; and Kaliamman Koil Street, Karapakkam, ward 197.

Visitors queue up to sample budget meal

 It was lunch time, and students who finished revision exams, security guards from nearby apartments and curious marketing executives formed a serpentine queue outside the newly-opened Chennai Corporation budget restaurant off Poonamallee High Road

 Budget Restaurants sell about 1.3 lakh units a day


TN Govt’s launch of low-cost canteens to benefit lower rungs of society seems to have paid-off with each of the 73 centres selling nearly 1.3 lakh units of food a day.
“Everyday an average of one lakh idlies, 25,000 (units of) sambar rice and 15,000 curd rice are being provided at these 73 Centres,” Minister for Municipal Administration and Water Supply, K P Munusamy said


 Budget Restaurants in Every Ward


On April 1,2013 residents in 127 wards across the city may get a taste of the Amma canteens’ signature Re. 1 idlis
The Corporation has completed the process of identifying 127 buildings in these wards, where the canteens will be located. So far, 73 such eateries have been opened. And with the 127 in April, the total number of Amma canteens in the city will number 200, one for each ward.
