Spice Jet



SpiceJet opened bookings on May 18, 2005 and immediately  over 37,000  booked out in just one day, setting a new record in the Asian continent.

Red Hot Special Fares were introduced ranging from INR99 ( US$2.18) to INR799 ( US$17.58). 

The first Boeing 737-800 aircraft left Delhi for Mumbai via Ahmedabad on May 24, 2005 flagged off by the Union Minister of Civil Aviation, Shri. Praful Patel.



Spice Jet has 16.3 % market share as of January 2012 making it the fourth largest carrier among the seven and the second largest among the no-frills airlines.

SpiceJet operates 264 flights daily to 32 domestic cities and two international destinations — Kathmandu and Colombo.

Kalanidhi Maran acquired 37.7% in the business in June 2010 and he took over as chairman of SpcieJet in November 2010 after buying out American investor Wilbur Ross(had invested about 350 crores in 2008)

SpiceJet on Friday March2,2012 said its promoters agreed to infuse Rs 100 crore fresh funds into the airline in exchange for an additional equity of 42.9 million preference shares aggregating to 5%.With this, the holdings of Kalanidhi Maran and his family will go up to 48.6 %.
