The Adarsh Housing Society is a Co-operative Society in Mumbai,India reserved for the War Widows and Veterans of the Kargil War.
Houses were not given to the deserving families, instead taken by politicians and bureacrats. CBI allegations are against 3 former chief ministers -
Sushilkumar Shinde,
Vilasrao Deshmukh and
Ashok Chavan
in the benami properties issue
Questions were raised on the manner in which apartments in the building were allocated to bureaucrats, politicians and army personnel who had nothing to do with Kargil War and the way in which clearances were obtained for the construction of the building of the Adarsh Society.
The Society is also alleged to have violated the Indian Environment Ministry rules.
Bombay HC slammed the CBI for not initiating action against government officials involved
The Bombay HC come down heavily on the Central Bureau of Investigation once again for not initiating significant action against accused in Adarsh society scam despite gathering sufficient evidence against them
A division bench of Justice Mujumdar and Justice RD Dhanukar questioned the CBI, "Why haven't you arrested anyone despite gathering incriminating evidence against the accused persons?"
'If you (the CBI) don't go ahead and make the arrests we will be constrained to summon the director of the CBI," they added.

The CBI on Tuesday March 6,2012 claimed to have unearthed a conspiracy of dilution of charges against the accused in the muti-crore Adarsh housing scam and arrested its own counsel and a former Congress MLC, who is already an accused in the housing case.
CBI Files FIR Against 15 People - Monday March 12,2012
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Enforcement Directorate (ED) submitted their status report on the Adarsh Society scam was filed in the Bombay High Court on Monday March 12,2012. The court asked the CBI, ED and I-T Department to have a high level meeting to share information so that investigation is quicker.
Two former Maharashtra chief ministers Ashok Chavan and Vilasraso Dekshmukh have been accused of allotting flats meant for war veterans to their relatives.The CBI has filed an FIR against 15 people in the case. The investigative agency has sought two weeks' time to complete investigations and file a chargesheet.
Vilasrao Deshmukh, Sushil Kumar Shinde Summoned
The Adarsh Judicial Commission has directed Deshmukh to appear before it on June 21 and 22. Sushil Kumar Shinde has been told to appear on June 25 and 26,2012.
Ashok Chavan, former Maharashtra chief minister who had to step down as the chief minister in November 2010 following the scam, was summoned by the commission to appear as a witness on May 23.However,Chavan had on Tuesday May 22,2012 sought exemption to appear as a witness before the two-member commission probing the Adarsh housing scam.(Chavan is accused of recommending 40 per cent allotment of flats in the Adarsh Housing Society, originally meant for Kargil war widows, to civilians)
The two-member commission, headed by former Bombay High Court judge JA Patil, had been formed by the state government to look into the allegations of the illegality involved in the Adarsh society.
The commission, in its interim report, had said that the land belonged to the state government, contrary to the claim made by the Ministry of Defence that it was a defence land.
