The memorial was inaugurated after the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court gave permission on Tuesday Nov 05,2013
Mullivaikkal Memorial” (Mullivaikkal Ninaivu Mutram), a private monument built on a private land at Vilar in memory of Tamils who had sacrificed their lives in Sri Lanka
The memorial has sculptures depicting those who died in Mullivaikkal in Sri Lanka, migration of Tamils and those living as refugees. The memorial also has photos of Tamil poets, leaders and activists who contributed to Tamil and Tamil cause both in Tamil Nadu and in Sri Lanka
Compound wall of Mullivaikkal Memorial demolished
The police and highways department officials demolished a
portion of the compound wall of the Mullivaikkal Memorial (Mullivaikkal
Ninaivu Mutram) here on Nov 13,2013 Wednesday morning.
The
police came to the memorial armed with bulldozers and started the
demolition of the wall and removal lamp posts put up in front of the
memorial.
The police later fenced the memorial area
which contained the park and lawns with wire mesh. The police also
installed two boards stating the area belonged to Highways department.
