Opposing the Central Govt's decision to participate in the 23rd Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting to be held in Colombo on Friday Nov 15,2013, the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) activists led by its general secretary Vaiko detained the Madurai-Chennai Egmore Vaigai Express and staged a demonstration here on Tuesday Nov 12,2013
As a result of the agitation, the superfast Express was detained for about 30 minutes
Leading the protest, Mr. Vaiko -
- raised slogans against Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa
- blamed the UPA-led Congress, including Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and AICC president Sonia Gandhi, for neglecting the pleas of “millions of Tamils” to boycott CHOGM
- demanded that India stay away from the conclave, which alone, he said, would restore the lost respect for India among the world community
