A total of 843 candidates are contesting in Phase II polls to the 90-member Assembly in the State.
18,015 polling booths have been set up for nearly 1.40 crore voters who will exercise their franchise.
A total of 4747 officials — 72 observers and 4675 micro observers — will be monitoring each candidate, an average of six officials for each of the 843 candidates in the fray, in addition to police and expenditure observers
In the last Assembly elections in 2008, the BJP and the Congress equally shared the 72 seats.Both sides got 35 seats each, with two seats won by the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP)
Naxal-affected Chhattisgarh recorded the highest-ever polling of around 74.7% as elections were held today in 72 constituencies in Phase II which went off peacefully barring an incident in which one person was killed and two others injured in firing by CRPF personnel following a scuffle
