13 DMK MLA's Elected in the Assembly By-Election Sworn-In Tuesday May 28,2019

The 13 Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) members, who were recently elected to the Assembly in the bypolls, were administered the oath of office by Assembly Speaker P. Dhanapal here on Tuesday May28,2019

DMK president and Leader of the Opposition M.K. Stalin, DMK principal secretary T.R. Baalu and senior DMK leaders were present during the event in the Speaker’s chamber in the Assembly building in Fort St. George campus.

With these 13 DMK MLAs, the total number of DMK MLAs has gone up to 101 in the House. DMK allies Congress and Indian Union Muslim League have eight and one members respectively.

However, the Congress’ tally would go down by one as Nanguneri MLA H. Vasanthkumar has been elected to the Lok Sabha

The new DMK legislators are —

  1. V. Senthil Balaji (Aravakurichi)
  2. P. Saravanan (Tirupparankundram)
  3.  R.D. Shekar (Perambur)
  4. T.K.G. Neelamegham (Thanjavur)
  5. Poondi K. Kalaivanan (Tiruvarur)
  6.  K.S. Saravanakumar (Periyakulam)
  7. S.A. Sathya (Hosur)
  8. L. Idhayavarman (Tiruporur)
  9.  A. Krishnasamy (Poonamallee)
  10. M.C. Shanmugaiah (Ottapidaram)
  11. A.C. Vilwanathan (Ambur)
  12. S. Kathavarayan (Gudiyatham) and 
  13. A. Maharajan (Andipatti).
 Along with 38 Lok Sabha constituencies that went to polls on April 18, 18 Assembly seats had bypolls.

On May 19,2019, 4 more Assembly seats — Sulur, Aravakurichi, Ottapidaram (Reserved) and Tirupparankundram – had byelections.

The DMK and its allies romped home in 37 out of the 38 Lok Sabha seats, with just the Theni seat going to the AIADMK.

Out of  22 Assembly constituencies, the DMK secured 13 and the AIADMK 9
