Day One Friday Nov 24,2017

Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat in the second Test of the series being played at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur from Friday. Sri Lanka had won the toss in the first Test at Eden Gardens too

India were forced to make three changes as Ishant Sharma, Rohit Sharma and Murali Vijay came in as replacements for Mohammed Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Shikhar Dhawan.

Mohammed Shami, has a niggle in his left hip while pace bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar and opener Shikhar Dhawan, both of whom performed brilliantly in the drawn opening Test at the Eden Gardens are skipping the second Test due to personal reasons. Bhuvneshwar is getting married during the second Test.

In 51 Tests, Vijay has scored 3408 runs at an average of 39.62 with nine Test hundreds. The fourth Test against Australia in March at Dharamsala was his last Test.

In 77 Tests, Ishant has taken 218 wickets. His last Test was against Australia at Ranchi, in March.

At lunch Sri Lanka were 47/2

Ishant Sharma and Ravichandran Ashwin provided the breakthroughs for India after Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to bat first.

After narrowly missing out on a win in the opening Test at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, India are looking to re-establish their dominance as they take on Sri Lanka in the second Test match at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur.

Virat Kohli’s Indian cricket team came agonisingly close to winning the first game but bad light ruined their chances to do so on the final day of the rain-marred encounter in Kolkata.

Sri Lanka, who were hammered by India across all formats earlier this year, are yet to win a Test on Indian soil

From being India’s pace spearhead to being sidelined by the younger crop, Ishant Sharma has had a tough ride on the international scene in the last year. But on Friday, the most-experienced campaigner in the Indian Test team — with 77 appearances — showed his class as he played a pivotal role in bundling Sri Lanka for a meager 205 on the opening day of the second Test at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur.

At stumps, India were placed at 11/1, trailing by 194 with 9 wickets in hand.
Scorecard
Sri Lanka 205/10
India 11/1

While Murali Vijay was unbeaten on 2, Cheteshwar Pujara is also batting on 2.

The Lankan pace bowling duo of Suranga Lakmal and Lahiru Gamage did bowl their heart out and Gamage even rattled KL Rahul’s (7) stump.

But going by Vijay and Pujara’s mood, a long day surely awaits the Lankans on Saturday.
