The Central Water Commission for Flood Control has issued warnings to
six Cauvery delta districts in Tamil Nadu as the outflow of water from
the Mettur Dam built across the Cauvery was increased from 50,000 to
80,000 cusecs since Monday July 23,2018
This increase in the outflow of the river water has raised an alarm in the lower districts of the Cauvery delta including Erode, Namakkal, Karur, Tiruchi, Thanjavur and Nagapattinam.
This comes as the inflow of the water from neighbouring Karnataka remains around 80,000 cusecs.
The Mettur Dam has already reached a height of 120 feet for the first time in five years.
