Taiwan’s president-elect Tsai Ing-wen has appointed former finance
minister Lin Chuan premier as she prepares to take power on May 20,2016
Lin Chuan(64)a close ally of Taiwan's president-elect Tsai Ing-wen, would help Taiwan’s new leader fulfil her campaign promises not only to revive the island’s sagging economy, but also to implement a series of government and societal reforms, Tsai said during a news conference in Taipei on Tuesday morning.
“The cabinet to be headed by Lin will not only be a cabinet to improve our economy, but also a cabinet to reform the government and society,” Tsai, of the pro-independence Democratic Progressive Party, said
Lin Chuan, who headed the finance ministry during the DPP’s administration between 2000 and 2008, said he would do everything in his ability to complete Tsai’s tasks for him.
“I will make sure that the future cabinet is able to communicate with the public so that people here will be aware of what the government is doing,” Lin said.
In Chuan, a former economics professor at the National Taiwan University and now director of DPP think tank, the New Frontier Foundation, Lin said other key cabinet posts would be announced soon
