In a first, solar panels to light up non-AC coaches of trains

50 Rail coaches well equipped with solar panels estimated at the cost of Rs 2.5 crore are being made in Jodhpur to provide power connectivity to the non-AC coaches of the trains.

Made under the North Western Railway (NWR) workshop, the solar panels will reduce large amount of carbon emission and save the fuel that has to be provided to the trains daily. Also, upto Rs 40-45 lakh will be saved.

This is the first time, such a workshop has been organised which will lower the burden of the railways a lot.

The panels will provide power connection to the fans and lights and will be fitted in the roof of the trains. It is expected to work for about 15-20 years.
