112-year-old Holocaust survivor is oldest man on earth Friday March 11,2016

 

At the age of 112 years and 178 days on Friday March 11,2016, this holocaust survivor was declared the oldest man in the world.

The Guinness World Records made the announcement on Friday March 11,2016 after verifying Kristal's age with the help of Los Angeles' Gerontology Research Group and Poland's Jewish Records Indexing.

Israel Krystal lived through the turmoil of two world wars, lost his family in the Holocaust and escaped death in the Auschwitz concentration camp, The Straits Times reported. After fleeing the Holocaust, he started a new life in Israel.

"I don't know the secret for long life," said Mr Kristal, who lives in Haifa, Israel, according to a statement issued by Guinness. "There have been smarter, stronger and better looking men than I who are no longer alive," he added.

"All that is left for us to do is to keep on working as hard as we can and rebuild what is lost," he was quoted as saying.

Kristal was born in a Polish village of Malenie on Sep 15, 1903, according to the Gerontology Research Centre.

According to the Guinness records, the oldest living person is an American woman Susannah Mushatt Jones at 115 years and 249 days as of Friday March 11,2016
