Guinness International Champions Cup Final Manchester United Vs Liverpool at the Sun Life Stadium in Miami ,USA Monday Aug 04,2014

Manchester United left their US tour with the Guinness International Champions Cup in tow following a hard-fought 3-1 victory over bitter rivals Liverpool in Miami.

The sides met in the Sun Life Stadium in the final of the pre-season tournament and goals from Wayne Rooney(55), Juan Mata(57) and substitute Jesse Lingard(88) were enough to see Louis van Gaal win his fifth United match in a row.

Steven Gerrard had put Brendan Rodgers' men ahead from the penalty spot in the 14th-minute following a foul by Phil Jones on England team-mate Raheem Sterling, but Rooney's goal after half-time changed the game.

Wayne Rooney's 55th-minute strike was followed just two minutes later by Mata's goal and that turned the tie completely on its head

Louise Van Gaal is unbeaten as United coach and he will head into the Premier League season but lots of confidence, as will Rodgers, despite the worrying way in which Liverpool seemed to wilt in the second half.
