AIADMK's Thambidurai unanimously elected as Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker by the members of the House. Thambidurai, who had filed his nomination on Tuesday, was backed by Bharatiya Janata Party leaders Sushma Swaraj and Rajnath Singh and got the support of all other parties too.
The motion for his election was moved by Home Minister Rajnath Singh and seconded by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj.
Congratulating Thambidurai, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, "Thambidurai has been unanimously elected as the Deputy Speaker of the House, I thank all members of the House.Thambidurai has served as the Deputy Speaker in the past. He has been a minister too. He is also an academician."
