By-polls for the post of Mayor of Tirunelveli and Tuticorin municipal corporations will take place on September 18.
The post became vacant following the resignation of Tirunelveli and Tuticorin Mayors Vigila Sathyanand and L. Sasikala Pushpa who were subsequently elected to the Rajya Sabha in January 2014
Announcing the election schedule on Wednesday Aug 06,2014, the State Election Commission also stated that elections for the post of chairperson of Ramanathapuram and Sankarankoil municipalities would also be held the same day (September 18). In the case of Ramanathapuram, the local body chairperson S.K.G. Sekar died in December 2012 whereas, in respect of Sankarankoil, S. Muthuselvi, who was the head, had quit the post to contest the Sankarankoil assembly by-election in March 2012.
