The fate
of the grand alliance of Nitish Kumar, Lalu Prasad and the Congress,
which was recently formed to take on the resurgent BJP, was sealed with
peaceful polling in the 10 Assembly seats in Bihar where by-elections
were held on Thursday Aug 21,2014
But
the voters in the state appeared to be less-than-enthusiastic about
taking part in the by-polls, which had been billed as the 'semi-final
for power' ahead of next year's Assembly elections in Bihar.
Only 46.42 % polling was recorded in the 10 constituencies where voting was held during the day.
This was about 6 % less than the polling recorded in the same constituencies in the 2010 Assembly elections.
Polling
was held in Bhagalpur, Banka, Parbatta, Rajnagar (reserved), Mohania
(reserved), Hajipur, Chhapra, Narkatiyaganj, Jale and Mohiuddinagar
constituencies.
The BJP had won six of the seats in the last Assembly elections while the RJD and the JD(U) has bagged three and one seat each.
The counting of votes will take place on August 25,2014
