Rahul Gandhi Appointed as Vice President of INC - Saturday Jan 19,2013


Rahul Gandhi's appontment as VP took place at a meeting of the Congress Working Committee, which unanimously adopted a resolution moved by Defence Minister AK Antony to make him the party's No. 2 behind his mother, who remains the party president.


Rahul Gandhi is greeted by finance minister P Chidambaram after he was appointed as vice president of the Congress party in Jaipur.

  • In the 2010 Bihar Assembly elections, Mr Gandhi famously urged the Congress to fight alone, without alliances. The Congress won just four seats in a 243-seat Assembly.Nitish Kumar, the Bihar chief minister, ridiculed Mr Gandhi: "He wants to become the prime minister of India. First let him at least become the chief minister of a state. Let him learn governance." 

  • Rahul Gandhi is the Chairman of the Congress Coordination Panel for 2014 Lok Sabha polls.
