Miloš Zeman, former Prime Minister Wins 2013 Czech Presidential Election - Saturday Jan 26,2013

Milos Zeman(68) former  prime minister during 1998-2002 and economist known for his outspoken populism, was elected president, becoming the Czech Republic's first popularly elected president.

The first direct presidential election in the Czech Republic was held on Jan 11-12,2013 and since no candidate received a majority of the votes in the first round, a second round Run-Off Election was held on Jan 25-26,2013

Miloš Zeman won the second round of the election and has been elected the next president of the Czech Republic. Milos Zeman secured 55% of the 2nd round vote as compared to 45% of the vote secured by Karel  Schwarzenberg

Milos Zeman an avowed supporter of European integration, signals the end of the era of Vaclav Klaus, the Czech president for the past 10 years, whose vociferous skepticism of the European Union and scorn for the battle against climate change made him a sometimes awkward partner in Europe and the United States.
