Chinese brands dominate the India smartphone market

The Indian smartphone market clocked 27 million units, rising by 4.7% sequentially and 14% year-on-year, as the market recovered from the effects of demonetization in the quarter ended March 2017.

According to IDC India, China-based vendors captured 51.4% of the smartphone shipments while share of Indian vendors dropped from 40.5% to 13.5% in the same quarter year-on-year.

Despite the sluggish sequential pace, the market saw an increase in average sale price to $155 in the March quarter 2017, from $131 year-on-year.
