This year over a third of candidates—428 of the 1,145—contesting elections in Punjab are crorepatis and this includes 23% of the independents.
In 2012, 266 of the 408 analyzed candidates were crorepatis while in 2007, 184 of the 462 candidates were crorepatis.
The candidate with the highest assets this year is Rana Gurjit Singh of the Congress who replaces SAD’s Karan Kaur.
