Japan's Emperor and Empress Visits India Saturday Nov 30,2013


The Emperor and Empress Michiko had arrived in Delhi on Saturday Nov 30,2013 on a 6-day India trip



The visit, which comes 53 years after the couple's trip to India as Crown Prince and Crown Princess in November 1960, is the first by an Emperor and Empress of Japan to any South Asian country.



On Dec 02,2013 Monday morning, the Emperor was given a ceremonial reception at the Rashtrapati Bhavan


Japan's Emperor Akihito on Monday Dec 02,2013  met top leadership of the country, including Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, during which various issues relating to bilateral ties figured

The Emperor  paid homage at the memorial of Mahatma Gandhi at the Raj Ghat

Indian Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh had visited Japan in May 2013 when both sides had agreed to further enhance cooperation in diverse fields, particularly in trade and investment.

In the financial year 2011-12, India-Japan bilateral trade reached USD 18.43 billion. Japanese companies have an average annual investment to the tune of around USD 2-3 billion in the last few years.

The year 2012 marked the 60th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Japan.
