Guinea is scheduled to hold its first Parliamentary Elections for 114 seats in 11 years on Saturday Sep 28,2013

The Parliament was dissolved after a military coup that followed the 2008 death of Lansana Conte, who ruled for 24 years

The poll, meant to cap Guinea's transition back to civilian rule, has been delayed repeatedly since President Alpha Conde was electedin 2010

Nearly 1700 candidates representing 32 political parties are contesting the election for parliament

Polling stations are scheduled to open at 7 a.m. and close at 6 p.m. local time with results expected within three days.

The last parliamentary elections in Guinea took place in June 2002 during the dictatorship of General Lansana Conte, who died in December 2008 after 24 years in power

Ruling party 'wins' parliamentary poll

President Alpha Conde's ruling party in Guinea took just under half of the seats in Sep 28,2013 parliamentary poll, electoral officials have said(secured 53 seats in the 114-member parliament)

The main opposition party had 37 seats, while the rest went to smaller parties.
The opposition said it would not recognise the result of the poll, which international observers said was marred by "irregularities"
