Rekha


Bhanurekha Ganesan, better known as Rekha in Bollywood was born October 10, 1954 in Chennai to Tamil Actor Gemini Ganesan and Telegu Actress Pushpavalli.
                                                                      





Rekha is one of the finest actresses of Hindi cinema noted for her versatility and has acted in over 180 films in a career that has spanned over 40 years.She is and always will be a timeless beauty.


Film Career
In 1966 Rekha started her acting career as a child actress in the TeluguFilm ''Rangula Ratnam'' directed by B N Reddy starring ChandraMohan,Vanisri and Anjali Devi  under the banner of Vahini pictures.The film bagged Golden Nandi Award in the Best Film Category for the year 1966.
In 1970 Rekha made her debut as lead star opposite Navin Nischol in the Hindi Film ''Swan Bhadon'' produced and directed by Mohan Seghal

 
   
Ghar(1978) earned Rekha her 1st nomination for Best Actress at the Filmfare Awards.

  
Muqaddar Ka Sikandar(1978)earned Rekha for her performance as a courtesan named Zohra nomination for Best Supporting Actress at the Filmfare Awards


Shyam Benegal's award-winning drama, Kalyug (1981), Govind Nihalani's Vijeta (1982), Girish Karnad's Utsav (1984),Gulzar's Ijaazat (1987), Mira Nair's Kama Sutra: A Tale of Love (1996),Rajkumar Santoshi's Lajja(2001) were some of her memorable films.
Rekha was last seen in the 2010 film Sadiyaan: Boundaries Divide... Love Unites which stars Rishi Kapoor,Hema Malini,Rekha,Luv Sinha(son of Shatrugan Sinha) Ferena Wazeirand directed by Raj Kanwar and music composed by Adnan Sami.The film bombed at the boxoffice and was declared a disaster.



Rekha will next be seen reprising the role of Sonia Mehra in the sequel to Krissh titled Krissh 2. The film is set for a 2012 release.

Rekha has won the Filmfare Award thrice

Best Actress for her role in Khubsoorat  (1980)




Rekha's perfect comic timing and her vivacious acting earned her 1st Best Actress Award at the Filmfare Awards


Best Actress for her role in Khoon Bhari Maang  (1988) and




Rekha played the role of a shy, homely woman in the first half, who transforms herself  into a femme-fatale later in the film.The film was produced by Rakesh Roshan and was a remake of the Australian mini-series Return to Eden (1983). The movie was very well received by the critics and fans alike and won Rekha her second Filmfare Best Actress Award.

Relationship and Marriage

Rekha was rumoured to have been married to Hindi Film Actor Vinod Mehra  in 1973

Rekha acted opposite opposite Amitabh Bachchan in a number of films and had an alleged off-screen relationship with him, which was widely reported on in the media

Rekha married Mukesh Aggarwal(a Delhi businessman) but unfortunately Mukesh committed suicide in 1991.
