1983 World Cup Cricket

The 1983 ICC Cricket World Cup was the 3rd ICC Cricket World Cup tournament held from 9 June9-25,1983  in England.8 countries participated in the event and the preliminary matches were played in 2groups of 4 teams each, and each country played the others in its group twice.

 The top 2 teams in each group qualified for the semi-finals.The matches consisted of 60 overs per team and were played in traditional white clothing and with red balls.

They were all played during the day.

England;Pakistan;India and West Indies entered the Semi-finals stage.


India defeated England and West Indies defeated Pakistan to enter the finals

England Scored 213 and India scored 217/4 and Pakistan scored 184/8 and West Indies scored 188/2
Yashpal Sharma  61 Runs;Sandeep Patil 51Runs and Mohinder Amarnath 46 Runs were the topscorers.

Kapil Dev 3-35;Mohinder Amarnath 2-27;Roger Binny 2-43 were the leading wicket takers.

Man of the Match: Mohinder Amarnath

In the finals,India defeated West Indies by 43 Runs.India scored 183 and West Indies scored only 140.
Kris Srikkanth38; Sandeep Patil 27 and Mohinder Amarnath 26 were the top scorers.

Mohinder Amarnath 3-12;Madanlal 3-31;Balwinder Sandhu 2-32 were the leading wicket takers.
