An avalanche is a large quantity of snow sliding down a mountainside rapidly.
While it is comparable to a landslide, the difference between the two is that in an avalanche, it is snow that gets dislodged, instead of earth.
An avalanche can be caused by both natural and artificial phenomena - earthquakes, animal movement, fresh snowfall or heavy rain fall under natural causes, while skiers & explosives under artificial ones.
