Bombay High Court Suspends Salman Khan's 5-year jail sentence , released on bail Friday May 08,2015

In a big relief for Salman Khan, the Bombay High Court on Friday granted bail to the Bollywood superstar and suspended his 5-year sentence in the 2002 hit-and-run case.

Salman Khan will not have to go to jail, pending disposal of his appeal against conviction in the 2002 hit-and-run case.The single-judge bench of justice Abhay Thipsay, however, asked the 49-year-old actor to surrender his passport and seek fresh bail from the sessions court, which had convicted and sentenced him on Wednesday. The next hearing in the high court is expected to take place on June 15,2015

Salman Khan was not present in court when a judge said the 49-year-old can apply for bail with a bond of Rs. 30,000. He has to surrender his passport and can only travel abroad with the court's permission.

This evening he completed bail formalities at the Mumbai sessions court. On his return home, he came out to the balcony of his apartment and greeted fans with a namaste, a wave and a salute.
