Prime Minister Alexander Stubb and his conservative National Coalition Party face a strong challenge from former businessman Juha Sipila and his centre-right Centre Party.
The incumbent Govt is formed by a four party coalition, composed of the National Coalition Party(44 seats),Social Democratic Party(42 seats),Swedish People's Party(9 seats) and Christian Democrats(6 seats) as well as the MP for Aland
Left Alliance with 14 seats and the Green League with 10 seats were initially also part of the governing coalition, but both left in 2014
In April 2014 Jyrki Katainen announced that he would not seek another term as the chairman of the National Coalition Party. The NCP chose Alexander Stubb as its new chairman in June 2014, and he subsequently became the new Prime Minister

Sipila, an IT millionaire, was relatively unknown in Finland until he became leader of the Centre Party three years ago.
He has publicly criticised Mr Stubb's plans to cut 6bn euros (£4.3bn) from budget deficits over the coming four years, dismissing the proposal as unrealistic.
Sipila has pledged create more than 200,000 jobs in the next 10 years.
It is unclear clear who Mr Sipila will choose to form a coalition with, if he is elected prime minister.
