With 121 seats across 12 states voting in fifth phase of Lok Sabha elections, India is witnessing the biggest round of electoral exercise on April 17. With this phase the voting will cross the half-way mark in terms of seats in the 2014 Lok Sabha Election scheduled in 9 Phases from April 07 to May 12,2014
Polling is taking place in all 28 seats in Karnataka, followed by Rajasthan (20), Maharashtra (19), Uttar Pradesh and Odisha (11 each), Madhya Pradesh (10), Bihar (7), Jharkhand (6), West Bengal (4), Chhattisgarh (3), Jammu and Kashmir and Manipur (1 each)
So far polling has been held in 111 constituencies in the 4 Phases -April 7,April 9,April 10,April 12 with substantial round of 91 seats went to polls on April 10
The 4 constituencies of West Bengal - Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar and Alipurduar
All the four seats are held by AIFB, RSP, CPI(M), BJP.
In Darjeeling, Football star Baiching Bhutia is contesting on the Trinamool Congress ticket. He is making his electoral debut from the hill station.
Phase 6 April 24,2014 - 6 Seats
West Bengal has 42 Lok Sabha constituencies. The next three phases of polling will be held April 30 (nine seats), May 7 (six seats) and May 12 (17 seats)
An electorate of around 83 lakh is eligible to choose representatives from among 78 candidates in 9,755 polling stations
6 Six seats spread over 4 districts - Muslim majority Malda and Murshidabad, besides North Dinajpur and South Dinajpur - are up for grabs in phase two of Lok Sabha polls in West Bengal
In the 2009 general election, the Congress had bagged six seats in the state, and five of those constituencies - Raiganj, Malda North, Malda South, Jangipur and Murshidabad - would vote April 24.
The other seat - Balurghat - had gone to the left Front partner Revolutionary Socialist Party(RSP)
