The expansion-cum-reshuffle of the Council of Ministers has been necessitated by the exit of Ministers from the DMK as well as the resignation of Pawan Kumar Bansal, Ashwani Kumar, Ajay Maken and C. P. Joshi.
In this all-Congress ‘mini-reshuffle’, while four got Cabinet berths, the others were sworn in as Ministers of State.
Mallikarjun Kharge will be the ruling UPA’s 7th Railway Minister in 4 years (2009-13)He was already Cabinet Minister -Labour & Employment
Those inducted into the Cabinet were -
Oscar Fernandes
Sis Ram Ola and Girija Vyas, both from poll-bound Rajasthan
Kavuru Sambasiva Rao from Andhra Pradesh.
The Ministers of State were -
Manikrao H. Gavit (Maharashtra) gets Social Justice & Empowerment
Santosh Chowdhary (Punjab) will be in the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare
E.M. S. Natchiappan (Tamil Nadu) is Minister of State for Commerce and Industry and
Jesudasu Seelam (Andhra Pradesh) will join Finance Ministry.
With this expansion, the strength of the Council of Ministers has reached 77
