UPA Govt hikes MSP for paddy, pulses & oilseeds Friday June 28,2013


The Government has announced an increase in minimum support price (MSP) for a host of kharif crops, including paddy, pulses and oilseeds.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved -

  • an increase of Rs 60 in the MSP of paddy to Rs 1,310 per quintal
  • Grade A paddy, the MSP increased by Rs 65 per quintal to Rs 1,345
  • Arhar by Rs 450 to Rs 4,300 per quintal
  • Groundnut  by Rs 300  to Rs 4,000 and Rs 4,500 a quintal
  • Sesame hiked by Rs 300 to Rs 4500 a quintal
  • Also, moong MSP has been increased by Rs 100 to Rs 4,500 per quintal
  • bajra  raised by Rs 75 per quintal and fixed at Rs 1,250 per quintal
  • maize, raised by Rs 135 per quintal at Rs 1,310 per quintal.
  • Soyabean black increased by Rs 300 to Rs 2,500 per quintal
  • Soyabean yellow hiked by Rs 320 per quintal to Rs 2,560 per quintal. 
  • Cotton medium staple raised by Rs 100 per quintal each to Rs 3,700
  • Cotton long staple has been raised by Rs 100 per quintal each to  Rs 4,000

The declaration of MSP by the Government this year has been delayed by about a fortnight, while the monsoon has advanced and covered the entire country about a month ahead than normal. 

Sowing of key kharif crops such as rice, pulses and oilseeds has picked up across the country with the swift advancement of monsoons.
