M. Karunanidhi was born as Dakshinamurthy on June 03,1924 in a humble rural household in Tirukkuvalai then in Madras Presidency and now part of Nagapattinam District
In 1938 at the age of 14,he joined Justice Party(latte called Dravidar Kazhagam)
In 1942 at the age of 18,he wrote an 8-page handwritten newspaper called 'Manavar Nesan' and circulated at no profit to 50 people.this later went to become 'Murasoli' - official Newspaper of DMK
Scriptwriting
In 1944 joined Jupiter Pictures as Scriptwriter with ' Rajakumari' as his first film.He wrote 75 screenplays including: Rajakumari,Abimanyu,Manthiri Kumari, Marutha Naatu Ilavarasi,Manamagan,Devaki,Parasakthi,

- In 1949 joined C N Annadurai in breaking away from Dravidar Kazhagam to form DMK
- In 1952,the award winning play-turned film 'Parasakthi'whose script written by M Karunanidhi was released
- He became the DMK Treasurer in 1961 and Deputy Leader of Opposition in tTN StateAssembly in1962
- When the DMK came to power in 1967 uner C N Annadurai, he became the Minister for Public Works
- When Annadurai expired in 1969, Karunanidhi became the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu
He holds the record of winning his seat in every election in which he has participated, in a political career spanning more than 60 years -
