Unlike in other states where the BJP-led NDA had stunning victory in
2014 general elections, the saffron party and its ally SAD failed to
replicate the success in Punjab where they have been in power for the
past seven years.
In 2014 Lok Sabha elections, SAD won 4 out of the 10 seats it contested, while the BJP won 2 out of the 3 seats it contested
The Congress won 3 seats, while the AAP surprised everyone by winning 4 seats
Also the BJP-SAD alliance also suffered defeat in the hand
of Congress in 2017 assembly polls in the state
The 2019 Lok Sabha Election for the 13 LS Constituencies in Punjab is scheduled to take place on May 19,2019 in a single phase
SAD and BJP has formed an alliance wherein SAD will contest 10 seats and BJP the remaining 3 seats
