The Election Commission of India on Friday announced bypoll for Tiruvarur Assembly constituency in Tamil Nadu on January 28, 2019.
The counting of votes is scheduled on January 31.
The bypoll for Tiruvarur was necessitated by the death of late DMK leader and former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on August 07,2018
Tamil Nadu Chief Electoral Officer Satyabrata Sahoo said that the Model Code of Conduct has come into place in Tiruvarur Assembly constituency soon after the announcement.
The gazette notification of the bypoll would be issued on January 3, 2019 and the late date of submitting nominations is on January 10. The submitted nominations would be scrutinised on January 11 and the candidates, if they wanted, can withdraw their nominations on January 14.
The Election Commission of India would be using Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail units (VVPAT) in all the booths for the bypoll.
