The Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD) undertakes the 'Swachh Survekshan' in order to rank cities based on their progress under the Swachh Bharat Mission.
Under the 2016 survey, 73 cities were evaluated and Mysore ranked right at the top, followed by Chandigarh.
Here is a look at the top and bottom-ranking cities based on the rankings released for this year.
The criteria on which the cities were ranked included their status as open defecation free, solid waste management, education & capacity building, field inspection & citizen feedback.
