Prime Minister Narendra Modi today paid rich tributes to  Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose on his birth anniversary, saying generations of Indians remember him for his bravery and patriotism.
“Remembering Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose on his birth anniversary. His bravery and patriotism endears him to several Indians across generations,” he tweeted.

The Prime Minister chose this day to declassify secret files relating to Netaji (January 23,1897 - August 18,1945) with a view of throwing some light on his mysterious disappearance

The Prime Minister also put out a proclamation issued by Netaji in 1944 asking Indians to fulfill their ‘duty’ in liberating India

On the 119th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today put in the public domain, for the first time,100 files on Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose whose disappearance 70 years ago remains a mystery.

The 100 files released by the NDA Government included 36 from the Prime Minister’s Office, 18 from the Ministry of Home Affairs and 46 from the Ministry of External Affairs, covering the period from 1956 to 2013. The files comprise over 16,600 pages of official documents.

The National Archives of India plans to release digital copies of 25 declassified files on Netaji in the public domain every month.

The first lot of 33 files were declassified by the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) and handed over to the the National Archives in December 2015

Two commissions of inquiry had concluded that Netaji died in a plane crash in Taipei on August 18, 1945. A third commission of inquiry and many people, including some of his relatives, have fiercely contested that theory
