The 2015 Portuguese legislative election was held on Sunday October 04,2015 for 230 seats of the Portuguese Parliament
The Parliament of the Portuguese Republic consists of a single chamber, the Assembly of the Republic, composed of 230 members directly elected by universal adult suffrage for a maximum term of four years
116 seats needed for a majority
Each one of Portugal's 18 Administrative Districts, as well as each one of the country's two autonomous regions - the Azores and Madeira - is an electoral constituency
Portuguese voters residing outside the national territory are grouped into 2 electoral constituencies - Europe and the rest of the world - each one of which elects 2 Assembly members.
The remaining 226 seats are allocated among the national territory constituencies in proportion to their number of registered electors
The Ruling centre-right coalition of the Social Democratic Party and the Democratic and Social Centre - People's Party, was seeking re-election to a second term in office.
Portugal's centre-right coalition government won the election polling 38.5% of the vote and getting 104 seats -Portugal Ahead won 99 Seats and Social Democratic Party won 5 Seats
The three left-wing parties, the Socialists,the Left Bloc and the Communists, between them polled 50.9% of the vote and won 121 seats - Socialist Party won 85 Seats;Left Bloc won 19 Seats and Democratic Unity Coalition won 17 Seats
One seat went to a minor party - Party for Animals and Nature
The left, parties, however, will be unable to form a government due to political differences between the Socialists and the two far-left parties.
The likely outcome is that the incumbent government will retain office with the tacit support of the Socialists.
