In a major announcement on the preventive healthcare front, Tamil Nadu Chief
Minister J Jayalalithaa on Tuesday August 25,2015 announced the launch of AMMA Master
Health Check-up scheme to benefit those who cannot afford such services
in private hospitals.
Making a statement under Rule 110 in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, Ms.
Jayalalithaa said private hospitals charge anywhere between Rs. 5000 and
Rs. 12000 for a master check up, which all sections of the society
cannot afford.
Therefore, as a pilot project, the AMMA Master Health Check-up would
soon be launched at the Government general hospital in Chennai.
She said the check up would include blood tests, urine tests, sugar,
thyroid and cholesterol screening, liver screening, chest x-ray, echo
and USG abdomen etc.
For women, the AMMA Woman Master Health Check-up, which would include
the above tests along with other procedures such as Pap smear and
digital mammogram, would also be offered at the hospital.
The Chief Minister also announced 22 other healthcare initiatives on Tuesday
