Sri Lanka - India Test Series in Sri Lanka

22 Years since India last won a Test series in Sri Lanka. Their 1-0 win in 1993 was their first and only Test series victory in Sri Lanka. Since then, they've drawn 0-0 in 1997, lost by identical 2-1 margins in 2001 and 2008, and drawn 1-1 in 2010

Third Test @ SSC Colombo Preview

Virat Kohli's buoyant India will chase their first series win in Sri Lanka in 22 years when the third and decisive final Test starts in Colombo on Friday August 28,2015

India thrashed Sri Lanka by 278 runs in the second Test at the P. Sara Oval in Colombo on Monday to level the series after Sri Lanka had won the opening match in Galle by 63 runs

India, who have not won a Test series on the island since 1993, will be without the injured trio of regular openers Murali Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan, plus wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha.

India, meanwhile, are likely to play top-order batsman Cheteshwar Pujara, for the first time in the series, as opening partner for Lokesh Rahul in the absence of Dhawan and Vijay.

Sri Lanka will begin a new era following the retirement of  Kumar Sangakkara.Sri Lanka are expected to replace the 134-Test veteran with another left-hander, Upul Tharanga, who has scored 1,113 runs in 20 Tests at an average of 31.80.

The last time Sri Lanka played a Test at the SSC a year ago, they swamped Pakistan by 105 runs to break a sequence of four successive draws on a traditionally high-scoring pitch.

India have lost two and drawn three of their last five matches at the venue. Their lone success at the SSC was the series-clinching 235-run victory in 1993

  • Tests 65
  • Innings 114
  • Best Bowling in an innings 7/74
  • Best Bowling in a Test Match 10/108

Records India created after the 2-1 Series win in the 3-Match Series over Sri Lanka

1. After the epic 2001 Test series win at home against Australia, the series victory in Sri Lanka is only the second time India have won a three-Test series after losing the first Test.

2. India's first victory on Sri Lankan soil in 22 years is the team's 16th series win away from home.

3. This is India's only second Test series win in Sri Lanka since 1993.

4. The last time India won a Test series overseas was against West Indies in 2011.

5. Virat Kohli has become the youngest Indian Test captain (26 years and 300 days) to win a series away from home. He beat Kapil Dev's record of 27 years and 168 days.

6. Kohli is also the first Indian Test captain to win an away series after losing the first Test. Ajit Wadekar and Sourav Ganguly achieved that in a home series.

7. After Kapil Dev (434), Zaheer Khan (311) and Javagal Srinath (236), Ishant Sharma is the fourth fast bowler from India to get to the landmark of 200 Test wickets.

8. India's 16 series wins away from home have come against Bangladesh (4), England (3), West Indies (3), New Zealand (2), Sri Lanka (2), Pakistan (1) and Zimbabwe (1).

9. Today's defeat is Sri Lanka's first at the Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC in last 11 years. After losing to Australia in 2005, Sri Lanka had won 7 and lost 7 Tests at the SSC.
