The bypoll was necessitated to fill up the vacancy caused following the
disqualification of former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa's conviction in
DA case in Sep 2014
Candidates
It will a multi-cornered contest with S. Valarmathi of the AIADMK, N.
Anand of the DMK, M. Subramaniam of the BJP and K. Annadurai of the CPI
(M) being the main contenders.
Apart from the recognised national and regional parties, three candidates of registered parties, B. Hemanathan of the Janata Dal (United), R. James Paul of the Akila India Adithanar Makkal Katchi and V. Pandian of the Ezhuchi Tamilargal Munnetra Kazhagam, are in the fray.

82.54 % Polling
The Srirangam Assembly constituency in Tiruchirapalli recorded a high
voter turnout of 82.54 per cent in the byelection held on Friday.
Barring incidence of glitches in EVMs in some polling stations, which
were corrected later, the electoral exercise was peaceful with
enthusiastic participation of voters.
When voting ended at 6 p.m., 82.54 % of the votes were polled, Election authorities said.
The counting of votes will be held on February 16,2015
