Ireland have won the toss and chose to field
Put into bat, the West Indies scored 304 for seven, largely thanks to a sixth-wicket 154-run partnership between Lendl Simmons (102) and Darren Sammy (89).
The Irish hit back brilliantly as Paul Stirling (92), Ed Joyce (84) and Niall O'Brien (79 not out) starred in the chase.
Justifying their 'giant-killers' reputation, minnows Ireland have once again caused a major in their opening match of the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup by beating West Indies by four wickets.
While chasing an imposing total of 304 they got off to a flying start as their openers stitched 71 runs for the first wicket.
And then their top order also joined the party and kept the pressure on West Indian bowlers to eventually seal the match comfortably by four wicket with 25 balls to spare.
For the whirlwind knock of 93 opener Paul Stirling was adjudged Man of the Match.
It was Ireland's first one-day international win in six matches against West Indies
Ireland are no strangers to knocking over teams from cricket`s elite top eight. At the 2011 World Cup they pulled off an historic win over England and four years before that they stunned Pakistan
Ireland, coached by former West Indies batsman Phil Simmons, uncle of Lendl, next face fellow qualifiers UAE on Feb 25,2015
Ireland, ranked 11th, reached the second group stage in 2007 and now have matches against the UAE, South Africa, Zimbabwe, India and Pakistan to try and secure a top-four spot in Pool B and a place in the quarter-finals.
